How to choose sweatshirt fabric for your collection

French terry or brushed fabric? Compare weight, composition and finishing before placing your order.
Loopback and brushed surfaces
Look at the reverse of the fabric. French terry has visible loops, while a brushed sweatshirt fabric has a surface that has been brushed. Assess both samples against the season and garment construction. The name alone does not tell you how heavy or soft the fabric will be.
Weight is not a quality rating
A higher g/m² value means more mass per square metre. It does not automatically prove better durability or suitability for your design. An oversized heavy sweatshirt and lightweight trousers may need different specifications. Compare usable width and fabric consumption per garment as well.
Composition, colour and trims
Check the full composition and available finishes. For matching garments, choose ribbing that complements the colour and stretch of the main fabric. Approve samples side by side: the same colour name does not guarantee an identical shade on different fabric constructions.
Test the finished design
Sew and wash a sample, then assess measurements, surface appearance and seams. For a quotation, specify the sweatshirt fabric type, quantity and colour. If you do not have a specification, describe the product so we can help select a base for further trials.
